This is the Moorish Castle, its located in Sintra and was built during the IX century.
No battles were fought here, in fact, it surrendered right after the fall of Lisbon, during the conquest of D. Afonso Henriques.
During the earthquake of 1755, most of castle was destroyed.
However, it was recovered and rebuilt during the XIX.

Hey Nuno here's one I post previously -- Fort Nepean, bottom end of Eastern main land Australia
https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/histo...ww1-2-a-13364/
Very similar in design to Rene,s fort is Newhaven fort in sussex, england.
A victorian fort that saw much up dating for ww2,its open as an attraction and has a collection of militaria and local ww2 artifacts.
As well as a gun battery it was home of HMS Aggressive a land based station for RAF mtb,s,and some paintings are still on the walls done by the crews billeted there.
HMS newt [landing craft squadron] was based in newhaven and a seaplane base of which its hanger still survives but now errected in wimbledon as a storage shed.
A nice day out for all military fans.
