wow nice group dave and history so close to home ebay strikes again
Hi Dave, nice group and certainly worthy of further research. Not 100% sure he was a Commando. Bear in mind not every Royal Marine was a Commando. Looking at his record a couple of the entries are:
HBL = Home Based Ledger.
MNBDO= Marine Naval Base Defence Organisation.
I would be interested to learn more about him.
Cheers, Ade.
Hi Ade, i found out the phone number of the guy selling them,he has a an antiques shop who mainly sells coins, he told me he bought them from the vets daughter who told him that the vet was a commando and she now lives in skegness, so thats all i know on the history up to now, how do i go about researching further? cheers Dave
I am not really up on RM stuff. I have only ever looked in Army Command stuff. You need to find out which RM units served overseas to qualify for the Africa & Italy Stars.
It is a pity that his actual unit is not clearly given. The MNBDO got re-designated:
Sea Your History - Commandos and Raiders
Look up which one/s served in the Med.
Cheers, Ade.
Thanks Ade for the help and link cheers Dave
Very nice group, my father owns an extremely beautiful Royal Marine visor. A few years back we had a fire and mostly all the collection was destroyed.
