    Default Doors on a C-47 ?

    Hi,

Not exactly a normal question for this group but so many here with expert knowledge so I will give it a go.
    Been wondering.
When the 6th Airborne in their c-47s flew over to Normandy, were the aircraft flying with the door removed and open in order facilitate the jump and also if an emergency evacuation was necessary ?
The door opens outward so I guess it would have been difficult to open and secure whilst in flight.
Just one of those niggling little thoughts that keep one awake at night.
    Thanks.

Every depiction of c-47 jumps in movies and documentaries seem to show no doors. I've only seen them with doors in place when used as transport for personnel. I'm sure there is a Gooney Bird aficionado on the forum that can give you a definitive answer.
    Regards, Al
