Article about: Attached are some original photos from my collection showing scenes of the Drop at Arnhem ( writing on the back associates them with Arnhem ) but they could be from the Rhine Crossing.

    Attached are some original photos from my collection showing scenes of the Drop at Arnhem ( writing on the back associates them with Arnhem ) but they could be from the Rhine Crossing.

    The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

    Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
    Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
    Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
    Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
    We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
    But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

    Nice photo's, just a shame the main subject is obliterated by the water mark, which spoils the image completely.

    hi Paul i have spent the last 20 mins looking at this wonderfull picture
    and while i understand the reason for water marks i have to say that this one is over done ,,and completely ruins the pic ,, i have found it almost imposable to see anything but the water mark my eyes just cant see past it
    no offence ment here mate but its just too much cheers ian

    Hi Paul,
    The biggest give away is no leaves on the trees, Operation Varsity March. Arnhem September, plus also these are well known pictures from Varsity.
    Water marks or not, I like them.

    Aaron well spoted i allso like these pics for some odd reason i just cant see past the water marks cind of like a blindness
    i must admit since you pointed out some details i have seen a bit more in the pics good one mate cheers ian

    I have the first pic in several books and it has always been captioned as OP Varsity.
