" I'm putting off procrastination until next week "
i do not know absolutly for sure if its off a plane, but there are compelling reasons in its background that it is part of a B-17.
To make sure and to find out, which part of the plahe it is, i came to this forum.
if not claer enough on the pics, the flat sides and rounding off are painted with mat black colour.

..there appears to be a textile / cloth imprint or even attached to the metal.....or is that my eyes playing tricks????
I fear that this shall forever remain a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma....

...mate, never let it be said that you don't stick with something and see it through......after all it's a whole 3.75 hours since his last post :-)
may be imprint, there is nothing attached to the piece. it is pure metal.
solving the riddle would be marvellous.
this part, found 2 weeks ago, belongs to a friend of mine, 72 year old lady, whose uncle bailed out of the b-17 just before it crashed in 1945.
