That is a private purchase beret made by Compton Webb who are an MoD contractor but the issued berets are labelled like this;
This one was issued to me in the early '90s and the actual label is different but the items issued in the '80s were marked in a similar style albeit with less detail.
This type of SAS cap badge is freely available on the open market (made by the same manufactures) and the only way to tell if it is an issue item is if it is in the official cellophane wrapper with the MoD lable so the beret itself is key.

PS There are also some really awful replicas but they are easy to spot.
PPS Private purchase berets are worn by all ranks in all regiments of the Army so provenance would be absolutely essential but this one doesn't even look worn at all.

not 80's and not an issue item, though many units especially paras and sas bought there own, but not correct for the period claimed which would put me off.

Whatever its just an opinion.
So, can we say that it is a private acquisition from the 90s?!

Thank you very much
Pictures of the inside and any vent eyelets (shouldn't be any on a late/current beret) etc are essential to properly assess the beret. The cloth (wool) of the beret does look like it might be a little light (not as dense) as it should be though that might just be the picture but the badge looks OK for a late / current type. Also the "wear" to the beret around the badge looks a bit inconsistent with the rest as if it has been shaved to look like wear.
