    Nick,
1st off, it's an American style wing.
Combined wings were issued to cross trained members of the 503rd PIR and 11th Airborne Division troopers who had taken both glider and airborne qualification.
Next, looking at the rear, it's clear the badge was cast and not die struck .... which makes things awkward.
Q).. Was the badge an "overseas" item cast from an original ?

I think a little delving round the net might help to answer this one !!

Nick, yours is indeed a British type with that style of pin back, but the
way it is made does not look correct to me - as Gary says, it is cast
instead of die struck - and it is stamped 'Sterling' which is not
the kind of marking I would expect to see on a
    British made wing.........

thanks Steve it seems to be the census that it is a copy but they're pretty good so I'll keep hold of them for display.

I know this is an old thread, but I just had to show my Dad's wings. Dad was in the 505th from 1948 ~ 1954 or so; he went then to the 77th Special Forces for a year, then back to the 505. OCS in 1957; then SF again from 1963~68 (1st, 6th, 5th, Training Group).

Dad is 92 this July and he just gave these to me ... I never ever saw them before.
