    Hi Guys,

Does anyone have the regulations for proposed digs on US WW2 aircraft that crashed through accident etc on UK soil?? Would the MOD have to be contacted to liaise with the relevant US authority etc, etc. Would very much like to know the answers if anyone has any idea or if there are official channels etc. Cheers, Tim.

At the very least a license is required to be issued by the MoD under the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986.
Their information page on the subject is here:

Excavation of crashed military aircraft within the United Kingdom

    All the best,

The process for US aircraft which crashed in the UK is no different to British & Commonwealth and Axis aircraft which crashed in the UK.

The first thing is to make sure your research is sound, if there is any doubt left by your research you will at least be answering seemingly pointless questions and at most be refused. The research side is being treated much more strictly now (as it ought to be), as a result of a few mistakes in the past where aircraft got mixed up and licences were issued only for the dig to find things which were not meant to be there. Beyond that just follow the MoD guidence and you shouldn't have too much trouble.
