It looks to me like an ejection port cover, XL size. Any idea?

Wouldn't think it a port cover......not made of iron/steel. Would be aluminium alloy if it was.
Maybe a bit off a pot belly stove ?

Hi Steve,
it was found in a wood where there is not much litter. Just german and british spent cases, badges (very few left) and ordnance and armour parts. I found a Bren mag not far from it.
Aaahhh sorry....my mistake. Assumed you were on airfields like me
Could it be off an American grease gun ?

Hi Steve,
unfortunately airfields are off limits here. I prefer to hunt old and dismissed shooting ranges or battle/training fields.
Hi Matt, it is the lid/cover from an MG34 ammo drum.
I have borrowed this pic of a Yugo made copy to illustrate the point. Yours of course is wartime German.
Cheers, Ade.
thank you Ade, you spotted it well!
I do have 2 relic MG drums here, one found not too far from the place where I found this part but it didn't come to my mind
Wow ! What s uperb find it turned out to be ! Grats
Once again, post up a pic of something covered in 60years of rust, with no markings or paint of any kind and Ade will identify it.
Truly remarkable knowledge you have Ade !

I just checked my 2 trommeln and they both miss that part!
Hi Steve, you are too kind.
Hi Matt, that is great!
Cheers, Ade.
