Third Reich Officers Iron Cross Paperweight

Article about: You might have it oksnevad! If it's made out of bakelite, it could very well be the mold for casting the medal. Oh isn't speculating divine! This thing has sparked my curiosity. Jay

Default Third Reich Officers Iron Cross Paperweight

    Hi,

I have the following what looks to be a paperweight. The date stamped on it is 1939. It was retrieved by a relative during the advancement on berlin and apparently came from a senior ranking german officers quarters. Has anybody got any info on this piece or seen anything like it before? Any info appreciated.

It seems like a large Iron Cross with the swastika in the middle and the eagle with the swastika on her claws. It seems very well crafted.

    Thanks in advance

What's it made out of? It's certainly not a 'standard' item. If the provenance you have is correct then it is very likely privately made. Out of interest, what are the measurements of the EK top to bottom, left to right? It looks like a cast of a genuine medal.

It looks like the eagle was glued onto the the ornament. I believe it was made to stand on the flat portion where the eagle now is attached

Completely agree with you Bob. The eagle doesn't look right being there and I can't really see any point to it.

Adrian, I could see the eagle placed there so that when it was sitting up on the desk it would be pointed at the person seated. The eagle does look like it's glued on but it's a different material so it could have been drilled and anchored. Sure would like to hear more about it Al, it's an intriguing piece. It looks like metal or bakelite. Oh, I just read all of Bob's comments, he's right, it does appear it was designed to stand up on the flat side.

It is a nicely made piece !

Wonder what it is made of ?
Some early type of plastic ? Ceramic ? Clay ?

I too, agree with Bob about the flat side............!

Can anyone identify the eagle? What branch or organisation it might be from? Is it a cap badge?
    It looks awful.

    Beautiful peace there "dliche"

It may be possible that the eagle is supposed to be like that.. Look at the dimensions of the eagle and the flat where it is attached, it looks like the eagle was constructed for this fit, or the other way around..
Maybe it is an original negative mould for casting medals... ?
I am just throwing out some ideas
