Commodore Perry

Gentlemen, never seen anything like this before. It appears to be a medal given to Commodore Perry by the merchants of Boston for the American/Japanese Treaty of 1854?
Just wanted your opinions on it. It measures 2 1/2 inches and seems like it is made out of bronze.
