totenkopfdean....great find, is the first piece of U.S. Civil War militaria on the forum ?.....a bargain to be sure, I am not upto speed on the CSA (or the Union forces) as I should be, can this piece be verified as original (I am not casting doubt) , it certainly looks like it.
Prost ! Steve.

Several reliable sources claim it's real. One characteristic is the lead filled backing. Thanks for your interest!

Definitely a great find toten. Looks to be Texas. (Miss?) If it is real, ( you stepped into some good S) it would be worth big $$$$$'s! But for $25 I doubt it. Just like anything else, it can be made to look authentic. But then you never know. Good luck with it and check it out further. Ron

I was at a dig with my CW metal detecting club at a Brandy Station,Virginia winter Union camp site (also used by CSA) where over 100 buckles & box plates were found in 3 days. Some Georgia's and one Texas-Miss. Should be worth over $1000! I got a Union box plate & a Eagle sword belt plate along with a sword blade! Also over 20 canteens were found.
