What is this headgear?

Hi all,

Picked up this hat today. Has an unusual look to it and i have never seen one before. Im just wondering if any of you think/know it is military?

It looks like a bamboo pith helmet, more likely to be seen on safari in Africa than on the head of any military personnel.
