Rich, a nice M17 Austro-Hungarian steel helmet, are there any mm on the inside, near complete, only 2 of its 3 pads missing, but with its canvas chinstrap, looks to sport its original earth brown finish, super helm, thanks for showing !
    Prost ! Steve.

Very nice! The Austrians were present on the Lorraine front. So "taken on the drive to Metz" is consistent with history. You got a rather rare one, I guess!
    Cheers,

Rich, "CAS 66" made by "C. A. Scholtz" of Mateocz Sloeakei (I think its in the modern state of Slovakia), they made the M17 in size 66 only.
    Prost ! Steve.

Rich, a quick insight to the KuK on the western front. In July 1918 four infantry divisions under k.u.k. XVIII Korpskommando were sent to France. The Germans had no intention of deploying them as a corps, but put them into the front lines in the Verdun area as seperate divisions; the Korps-kommando had just one of them and some further German units under command. With the proven exception of the artillery, the Germans do not seem to have had high expectations of the fighting abilities of the Austro-Hungarian forces, and insisted on putting many of the soldiers through basic battle school before sending them to the trenches. The Austro-Hungarians were not posted to the most dangerous sectors; but they suffered significant losses during the final Allied advance of autumn 1918, when they were assaulted by American and French troops with tank support for which they had no answer. This information is from the book by Peter Jung "The Austro-Hungarian forces of WW1" part of the excellent "Osprey" series of books.
    Prost ! Steve.
