Default ME262 - Mechanic on RAF Base

    Hi

I have some paperwork relating to a man who served in the Luftwaffe during the war with Nahaufklärungsstaffel 12./12 and 2./NAGr. 6. He appears to have been a mechanic, and had training on the ME 262.

After the war he was kept as a POW until 1947, and was based at Fassberg RAF Base. He is listed on the paperwork as being part of a unit called D.A.Z.L. 22 (T)
Does this acronym mean anything to anyone?

    Any info would be welcome!

    Thanks in advance

Interesting set of documents including the attribution with the Me262.

Found two other men in D.A.Z.L units but no mention of the full unit name. Then I happened to find it, this unit he was serving in during the summer of 1947 was Deutscher Arbeitszug Luft 22(T). It was a ‘German’ unit of the RAF we will say. Not sure what branch of the RAF they are referring to but to the Germans it was the RAF Arbeitskommando (Labor Command). These were built up by the RAF at many of the Luftwaffe airfields they took control for the purposes of construction work. The men in these units were entirely German POWs that had been in the Luftwaffe.

Thank you for this information - that is really helpful. I did a search based on this and found some references to POWs working for the RAF in units on other airfields in Germany. Thanks again.
