Default International brigades and concentration camp ?

    Hi,
received some "modern", military, badges and patches, including these two medals in a case.
Now I do not know in which area of the forum I should set this.

One medal (diameter approx. 50 mm) is embossed with:
VOLUNTARIOS INTERNACIONALES DE LA LIBERTAD 1936 1939

The other medal (diameter approx. 35 mm) is embossed with:
MAHN UND GEDENKSTĂ„TTE LANGENSTEIN ZWIEBERGE HALBERSTADT

Could it be that these are medals that were presented to a survivor of the Langenstein concentration camp who, formerly, fought in/with the "International Brigades" in Spain?

    Thx. in advance,

Very plausible, as many defeated Spanish Fighters sought refuge in France and were targeted for arrest upon France's 1940 Surrender/Occupation...
Same with German Veterans of the French Foreign Legion...

The Foreign Legion (including Germans) fought in World War II in Norway and then in North Africa under the command of Marie-Pierre Koenig.

It is very likely that captured legionnaires of German origin were also interned as prisoners of war.

The extent to which they were subjected to and exposed to reprisals is beyond my knowledge.
