Spanish buckle questions...

I wonder if the Spanish AZUL Division Volonteers painted there Belt buckles like this?

there is a small village in Spain with this name
or is it the Makers mark?

Hello Germanski, CERECEDA is a municipality in Asturias, Northern Spain where perhaps the buckle was manufactured. You will often see buckles marked with cities like Madrid and so on. The Blue division was issued Wehrmacht Heer uniforms including standard buckles prior to deploying to the Russian front. They did however adorn their uniform with their own medals and insignia along with German issued insignia. They traveled from Spain in their own uniforms wearing red berets, blue shirts, Falange insignia. Some soldiers did retain their Spanish buckles as seen in the illustration below, although I'm not sure they were painted blue. I've seen no photographic evidence of blue buckles other than the one listed in ebay. If I see any other I will post it on this thread. Hope this helps, Al

I like the Painting! This Buckle looks like the open (cut out) Version with a enamel red Cross on the Eagle? I thought for Officers? Aldo very sorry just found Your friendly Answer many Thanks Germanski

Yes, you are right it's the cutout version for Officer's. Many period photo's indicate the Spaniards wore a variety of unconventional items on their uniforms unlike their German counterparts. It's hard to know for certain what is a period buckle when they did not follow regulations.

I like the look of the buckle but it would be impossible to say when that paint was applied. I have not seen or read anywhere about the use of blue painted buckles by the Division Azul. If you do find any information it would help support your theory.

I just hear from the Gentleman military Interest Club
that the last Spanish Belt Buckle shown by me,was the 1943 Pattern
for enlisted men,and perhaps worn by the last replacement for
"Division AZUL" on the Way to the Front?(Color also on Helmets a blue/

Seen in Spain in a Museum, listed as 1943 from an officer at his "gala" clothes..

the "battle"clothes of the same guy was this with an other belt
