Spanish Infantry Overcoat King Alfonso XIII era
I just acquired this ratty overcoat from ebay that was erroneously listed as a Spanish civil war coat. The coat exhibits all the characteristics of a Pre-Republic coat from the reign of King Alfonso circa 1886-1931. The coat itself is pretty beat up, full of moth holes and heavily repaired yet it retains all it's original buttons. I have identified the buttons as the type found on model 1884 uniform tunics. Note the Spain coat of arms with the Royal Crown, not something you would see worn after the Republic and the beginning of the civil war. The button are also marked by the manufacturer, "Barcelona" "E. Segura"
The shoulder straps are long gone and probably sitting in someones collection. The sleeve cuffs have a maroon colored soutache similar to the one in the diagram depicting a member of the Royal escort guard. It also has the dark blue collar as depicted in the photograph of the model 1908 artillery "russian" style overcoat
I say overall a nice find.
Regards, Al
