German M826 - UN support contingent for Somalia 1993 - 1994 UNOSOM II

Hello,

This is a German M826 helmet that was worn by the Somalia support contingent. The helmet comes complete with cover from the wearer. The German Bundeswehr was involved in the UN mission UNOSOM II in Somalia from March 1993 to March 1994.

All of the helmets from participants in this mission that I have seen so far are from early production from 1992 by Schuberth lot no. 01 to 07. This helmet is lot number 01.
The helmet is a standard helmet in RAL 6014 yellow olive with UN helmet cover. The cover is relatively faded.

At the beginning of this mission, a small number of UN-blue (RAL 5012)-painted M826 helmets with UN decals were issued as a one-off. Otherwise, as mentioned, helmets in RAL 6014 with a UN cover were worn

Superb information as always Sleepwalker so thanks for sharing more of your fine helmet collection ,looking back from around eight years ago i realised i put together this Bundeswehr mission in Somalia display 1993/94 and quite significant for the German armed forces as it was the first time the army operated outside of Germany since the end of the second world war
