After one of three helmets from the German troop test 1987-1991 was presented here,

here is the next one.

Of many project studies by the companies VDN/Busch and Schuberth Werke Braunschweig, only 3 shells and two interior fittings between 1987 and 1989 were included in the troop test.

The shells:
- Steel/Aramid bilayer helmet
- Aramid 1250gr
- Armind 1500gr


This is the "Two-Layer Helmet Steel/Aramid GH III" version, in which an outer steel shell is combined with an aramid filling. The abutting edges are also made of steel. Development began in 1986 at the Schuberth works. The steel jacket was supplied by VDN.

The background to this development was that the outside of a plastic helmet was exposed to mechanical influences, which reduced its durability. They wanted to compensate with a steel mantlet. The aramid insert was therefore only 3-5 layers thick.

The interior:
- Original version/ test version form of the later "NOSHA" interior with chin strap made of synthetic fiber, predetermined breaking point and press fastener.

This trial shell pattern could not meet the requirements and failed.

Ultimately, in 1991 only the "B 826 B2" was declared to meet the requirements and was technically mature, and it was introduced in 1992 together with the revised NOSHA interior and chin strap.

Fascinating study and example sleepwalker so thank you for sharing on a little known early development helmet which i was not aware of ,an example i have of an early trials helmet is this one not for the Bundeswehr but for the Bundesheer ,the helmet is a sandwich of two parts plastic inner and outer with an aramid material center ,the pictures also show the implemented helmet used by the Austrian armed forces

Here as an example are pieces from the ballistic test of this helmet model from 1987. The tests were carried out at the Schuberth company.
These pieces come from the collection of the Schuberth company, which was dissolved.
