    Default 2010 Round up

    Hi all

I thought Whitehunters post on his best finds for 2010 was a great idea, so here are my favorite finds of the year. Some of them are actually favorite 'days' but what the heck

So, in no particular order, (apart from the very last find which is by far and away the best i've ever had), here we go......

A dial found at the base dump with WH and LS. Turns out to be a control for the radio.

    2010 Round up

One morning at the gunnery range I know of. Just a couple of 303s !!!

    2010 Round up

An awesome RAF cap badge. Found on 'my' airbase at the beginning of the year.

    2010 Round up

The first evidence I have found of the reason the guys were chopping up 50cal and 20mm carts. A lighter made from a 20mm.

    2010 Round up

A superb Gilette razor tin. Found on the surface in the barracks area.

    2010 Round up

A load of No. 28 and 30 bomb pistols. Found at the base dump with WH and LS.

    2010 Round up

Another day at the gunnery range but in a different area. An old guy told me the USAAF and RAF used the area for strafing practice and told me where to look. What a guy ! He was BANG ON with his description !

    2010 Round up

A load more bomb pistols, again from the dump with WH and LS. No 42s as well this time.

    2010 Round up

    2010 Round up

A dial from a P38, found around the barracks of 'my' airbase.

    2010 Round up

A USAMC spoon, found at the dig organised by Tim. Many thanks......it was a great day !

    2010 Round up

The top cover from a Glim lamp. Airbase dump.

    2010 Round up

An O2 fitting for the portable cylinders. Airbase dump.

    2010 Round up

Two coins cut up into trench art by the personnel at 'my' airbase.

    2010 Round up

A 20mm with a 50cal jammed into the end of it. I did eventually get them apart after a week soaking in WD40. The 50cal was SPOTLESS on the top half !

    2010 Round up

The cover for the radio microphone switch from the front of an RAF aircrew mask.

    2010 Round up

    30cals found at Slapton sands.

    2010 Round up

A German dogtag, again found at 'my' airbase.

    2010 Round up

Some antigas ointment tubes. Airbase dump with WH and LS

    2010 Round up

And the best find I've ever had. The remains of 1st Lt Oliver Jelks wrist watch, which now resides with his brother back in the good old USA.

    2010 Round up

And here he is. The owner of the watch. Still gives me goosebumps even now.

    2010 Round up

    Roll on 2011 !!!!!!!!!!

WOW what great finds! I would say you had a great year Steve. I must compliment you with the unselfish act of returning that watch to the LT's brother!! I bet he was very suprized. Did he survive the war?
    Best regards Edwin

    That's fantastic Steve!

Finding that watch AND the owner's brother....a goal of any true metal detectorist/relic hunter. The pride of having done that has gotta be
    immense. Well done!
That's something that will be passed down for generations as well as how it was recovered! nice...history recovered
