Hi all
I thought Whitehunters post on his best finds for 2010 was a great idea, so here are my favorite finds of the year. Some of them are actually favorite 'days' but what the heck
So, in no particular order, (apart from the very last find which is by far and away the best i've ever had), here we go......
A dial found at the base dump with WH and LS. Turns out to be a control for the radio.
One morning at the gunnery range I know of. Just a couple of 303s !!!
An awesome RAF cap badge. Found on 'my' airbase at the beginning of the year.
The first evidence I have found of the reason the guys were chopping up 50cal and 20mm carts. A lighter made from a 20mm.
A superb Gilette razor tin. Found on the surface in the barracks area.
A load of No. 28 and 30 bomb pistols. Found at the base dump with WH and LS.
Another day at the gunnery range but in a different area. An old guy told me the USAAF and RAF used the area for strafing practice and told me where to look. What a guy ! He was BANG ON with his description !
A load more bomb pistols, again from the dump with WH and LS. No 42s as well this time.
A dial from a P38, found around the barracks of 'my' airbase.
A USAMC spoon, found at the dig organised by Tim. Many thanks......it was a great day !
The top cover from a Glim lamp. Airbase dump.
An O2 fitting for the portable cylinders. Airbase dump.
Two coins cut up into trench art by the personnel at 'my' airbase.
A 20mm with a 50cal jammed into the end of it. I did eventually get them apart after a week soaking in WD40. The 50cal was SPOTLESS on the top half !
The cover for the radio microphone switch from the front of an RAF aircrew mask.
30cals found at Slapton sands.
A German dogtag, again found at 'my' airbase.
Some antigas ointment tubes. Airbase dump with WH and LS
And the best find I've ever had. The remains of 1st Lt Oliver Jelks wrist watch, which now resides with his brother back in the good old USA.
And here he is. The owner of the watch. Still gives me goosebumps even now.
Roll on 2011 !!!!!!!!!!
