Ammo dump finds to ID

Hi Guys,

I've recently got these items which were dug from the site of a WW2 ammo dump in southern England. Can anyone identify these pieces?

I have posted some pictures of a 1952 ammo transport "Safe" you will see some similarities to the lid in your last picture The arms of the lid fit into slots in the corners of the main body and are locked into place by the central spinner. Whilst a lot more complicated than your lid, the basic concept of locking the lid in place would seem to be very similar. John.

The top pics look like the lid off a Bomb Pistol container, could be a N0.36 if the marking is correct.

The long tube bit looks like the gain from a pistol so may contain some explosive.

The pics of the lid with a cross look like a lid from the container for a Bomb Tail unit.

I assume that the bomb dump in question is a Ex RAF one.

I can't find my tape measure, so I'll give you rough estimates...

item #1 - APPROX 10"
item #2 - APPROX 7"
item #3 - APPROX 16"
item #4 - APPROX 6" x 7"

I'm not to sure which type of dump it was (ie RAF, Army), it was all dug by a friend of mine.

To put the size of the long tube into perspective... a 2" mortar cap almost fits the end thread. It is completely empty by the way, no dangerous stuff present

The long tube is the tail section from a blacker bombard 29mm spigot mortar,used by the home guard and in airfield defence, the brass piece in the widest end is the cartridge for it,we found a lot of these on a clearance task a couple of years ago and the cartridges were still live.........

The tube is completely empty. I put the tape measure inside, and theres only a very slight difference of approx 2mm compared to when measuring the outside (top to bottom)

Oh well... I'm pleased with that one.

I'd just come back to tell you that I'd found out what that piece was and I've been beaten to it.
