I agree with lizardking, this is the best and saddest thread I have read here. We as collectors love the bits we have..and sometimes we tend to forget the cost of war. Living in Canada the battlefields are so far away. That's why I travel to France, Belgium and the NL when ever I can.
It makes me proud to be allowed to be a member of a Forum that has members that do this, find the names, and give these Soldiers a proper Resting Place, regardless of which Army they served in.
Just My Thoughts.

Great thread - so impressed by your hard work, thoughtfulness but most of all your academic and unbiased approach -
A credit to the hobby - exciting to read about here, but, so much hard work, thank you for sharing your experiences.
Your descriptions and photos really underline the temporary and delicate state of the dug items, and I credit you for photographing the freshly dug items so diligently before they turn to powder, it is a profound and sobering experience to look at the photographs.
Thank you.
A very interesting thread. These expeditions must be very satisfying with results like this.Keep up the good work team. Thanks for sharing.

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings

Thanks Phil , it is the end of the story for these men , to be able to put a face to name of someone that was lost to history and their family is certainly one of the best things i have been involved with !
