Katyusha. My friend has a very similar one. The peeling-back is quite common.

    Great picture Paul.

Any ideas as to how I can clean it up a bit more?

That rust is proving difficult, lol.

Well, I gave it another clean and wash, and added some red primer.

Finally green army paint was sprayed on, now it's a nice little home for those lovely Spiders..

It looks a lot cleaner now, and quite a lot of rust was removed over the week.

Certainly looks better now, rather than being left to rot in some some muddy field..

Would make a nice decorative "statement" light.

Build a wood base. Put an LED spot light low in the base but shining "UP'. Maybe even an RGB LED light that can change colors.

Visually it would look very cool.

Inka could turn that into a work of art.

    Thumbs up

Interesting and useful thread. I've seen one or two of these at militaria fairs over the years and wondered what they were.

    And now I know !

As a matter of interest, why did you paint it?

......and I respect “ownership” as being the main reason. :-)

"As a matter of interest, why did you paint it?"

Mainly to protect it, as in some places the rust had really taken hold.

I just wanted a garden ornament, and it blends in with all the greenery around it.

The paint will fade soon, so it should look a bit better.

A worm has already taken up residence..
