    what a fantastic day!
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Yup, it was an incredible day . And it looks like it might have been the last dig of the season. Its been sub zero temps and a little snow since that day. I was hoping for milder weather but so far nothing.. Instead I have begun sorting and cleaning finds, and then of course helmets are the biggest joy to clean. I have done a couple of lids so far and a couple of gems have appeared. Here is one of them, the biggest helmet I ever found, having several layers of paint. Decal is visible under the paint, liner is gone, but it is named in the neck,: "Böhmer"

Much of yesterday was spent hovering over a tub filled with oxalic acid and rusted relics. These two plates were caked in rust so I was very surprised when numbers and an edelweiss began showing through the rust. After dinner I gave the plates a second bath in a much stronger solution and late in the evening I realized that I wouldnt get them any cleaner than they are now. A Wehrmacht vehicle license plate and same type of plate painted dark grey with a white edelweiss

Here is another cleaned up helmet from this season It has a bottom layer of dark green, then a lighter green before a layer of concrete which was painted green and sand, and it had winter camo at some point too. It has no leather left inside. Name was once painted inside it but only the rank remains" Obgf" (obergefreiter).
    Pretty happy with this one

It is always exciting to open up a gasmask container that has been closed in the ground since the war. Im of course hoping to find gold bullion, but most times it is just rotted gasmasks inside. Recently I opened one and was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the mask and filter. The piece of cloth in the bottom of the canister was even intact Maybe the next one has all the gold

I`ve been fishing in the oxalic bucket again and man, did I get lucky. This one was just half a helmet which I found in a bog. It was black and nasty looking and I did not have any expectations of seeing paint on it when I threw it into the bucket. Half hour later I dredged it out and couldnt believe my eyes. A real nice winter camo, and the decal is even showing a bit under the paint
