Thanks guys, I hope so too

Before the last days nasty weather poured down on us I managed to make two more trips to the Gebirgsjäger camp. I dug up a lot of crap but I would easily dig a ton of such trash to find the couple of gems I did this week

Gebirgsjägers snowshoes! Wow what a find.
    Digging in Norway & Kurland

I have only seen those in period film 1940 where Gebirgsjägers were landing from ship to some Norvegian harbor, and they had those white snowshoes strapped on top of gebirgsjäger rucksacks.
I have not found them in use anywhere else in period photos.
    They are german made.

Previous occasion I have seen bigger pile than yours was back 20 years ago.
Late collector took photo of a pile size of Pallet, 1m high pile of those left behind by retreating German troops some where in Finland side of Norwegian border.

I own one identical like in yours photo. My grandparents made a trip to Lapland in mid 1970-ties and they brought back one snowshoe pair back as souveniers.
I still have them and I treasure them.

Thanks, Verikauha. I ll clean a pair in acid and see if we can recover some of the white paint

It looks like winter is upon us, again. The next week will be all about subzero temperatures it looks like and that usually spells the end of digging season. I was lucky enough to make two trips out to the Gebirgsjäger camp last week, with the final trip on a snowfilled Friday 13th
