Hej Inka! Thank you for your thread and a beautifully monitored website, it is really truly interesting. I had a question, how come that the Norwegians did not scavenged the large pieces of iron after the war that seems to cover the countryside after the war (terrain too difficult to access? not needed because the resources were sufficient?). The contrast is very sharp compared to France where I live... Tack för det!

I think one of the reasons there is still so much stuff laying around in the Northern parts is that it is a smaller population here. Because after the war the civillians grabbed what they could use or might have use for in the future. I bet you wont find a single farm or house from that time without war related items. Even those coarse swastika stamped supply bags was cut open and sown into bedsheets or used as potato bags

I also found this item in a rubbish pit .I wonder if it is boot related as you can see the heel iron has a perfect fit in it. Please let me know what it is for if you`ve seen one before

If is a part of german ski ? The part could fixed the leg when you skiing?

Not a bad suggestion Lokvar , but I don`t see how this would be fastened to the ski as there is no screws or holes to fit it..Doesn`t look like any parts has broken off either.

Thank you for the reply! It is pretty much the same in France, many farmers took items and remade them for their own. My grand father used for many years WH boots to work out in the fields! I own an "farm item" that i particularly like, it is a WH belt, the buckle was denazified, the leather belt shortened and spikes were added to it : a collar for a massive hound! That actually would make a nice thread: ww2 items reconditioned for day to day uses! Ha det så bra!

Snow covered the ground this morning but as the day went on it melted away and I decided to use this chance. Went and dug for a few hours. Some gasmasks and related items
