As some of you know I recently moved to Normandy, I bought a farm not far from St Mere de Eglise wih a hell lot of work need to be done.
Anyway, today I thought I'll skip all the works and pull out the White's detector, as this village has seen some seriuos battle in '44.
From what I found out is you have to stick to the roads, not the plain lands, and after 15 minutes I was digging up Mauser shells next to the road. They are everywhere! But no realy nice stuff, like badges or medals. Than I find this little box, and when I find it I thin it is a zippo lighter, maybe even a name of the GI. Its the same size and weight, but when I come home and clean it I see it is not a zippo, and is painted the same color as Fieldgreen German paint. The box wont open now without breaking, so I put it in oil for now and will try to open later.
Something inside is ratteling, I am so curieus what I will find inside, lets not hope it is only sand inside!
Does anybody know a German box like this? Could they be for detonators?
I have open the box a little bit now, and with a lamp I see small balls inside.
I will open more if the metal can take the force. maybe it is for some kind of detonator?
I have it open now, and it is not what I expect, it is a box with chain and name label on inside. The chain has a cross, so that has got me puzzeld. The chain is broke (maybe by rust) and the label has a name and the number 9. I do read No 9 and not Nr 9, so what could it be? German or Allied?
If there is interest I'll post pictures of the inside, and the label.

Yes, I know. So what is your point? Like I said I bought an old farm close to St Mere de Eglise, with a fair bit of land that has been rented out to local people with horses. It belongs to me now, I bougt it, and they are paying me the rent. I am intitled to search on my land. And other people in the village have also given me permission to have a look on their land too. I want to make a vitrine with the finds coming of my land.
