That's right Phil it was an access all areas with our German guide, we found some amazing stuff I'll post it later complete US clips of ammo, a P47 Thunderbolt crash site with plenty of .50cal ammo, live 155mm US shell, very interesting. There's a lot more out there, we found some trenches that had been recently dug, amazing considering Sixty years that had gone by.

I went 2 years ago and It was totally untouch interms of lack of holes in the ground... but then it is Illegal to detect in the forest! Lots of shrapenel lying around on the surface if you go off track! Loved every minute!

I agree, if we hadn't had the info from our guide you couldn't imagine the last battles of WW2 were fought there. If you want really remote stuff you've gotta head more to the east Poland Russia etc.

Very impressive! Any interesting stories from mister Schulz? Was it hard for him to get back in that area?

Interesting chap Mr Schulz, he was involved with the flak towers in Berlin, then he transferred to the Hurtegen, (he was only 17/18 years old at the time). He recalled P47's at treetop level strafing ground targets, ''you could see the pilots'', he said.
