These finds i did over the last few years, searching the Hurtgen Forest battlefield.

Hi,
The crushed aluminium item has the name Marion Hall (I believe) roughly engraved upon it. Some research would be interesting.
Andy
That's right, the item is an US canteen cup.
I did some research in the past and this is what i found out.
Thanks to Robert S. Rush, writer of the book "Hell in Hurtgen Forest".
Marion M Hall, PVT, 35632328, was assigned as areplacement to HHC 1/22on 25 November.
He was from Rowan Kentucky, and survived the war, infact reenlisting on 11 July 1946 in the MP Corps.
He was a light truck driver.
And that is all i found out, i do not know if he is still alive today!
Last time I was in Hürtgen Wald I saw a fox hole - but the half of it was extended by a very big shell hole. On the top was part of a boot, magazine parts - and part of a jaw with 3 teeths. I did not dig in the hole, but marked it and gave the information + the parts to the nearby cemetary.
In the part of the wood the US soldiers had some heavy losses. So although there has been a lot of digging in Hürtgen Wald, the area is still so big that there are things to find...
