    Hello all,

This is a photo I have been analysing with my senior Modern History class.

It shows British Soldiers examining captured Egyptian weapons in Port Said 1956.

We have been having trouble identifying the lever action rifle shown with the arrow. I think it shows a very outdated Citadel Martini carbine but not 100% sure, something about the receiver is a little odd but it may be my eyes.

I can't find any other source to confirm the Egyptians still used these in the 1950's.

    Thanks for looking

A Martini was my first thought as well.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

An interesting jumble of firearms for sure! The antiquated and very modern lying side by side.

I also find it interesting that there are many SKS carbines in the pile. These, in effect, were far more modern than British infantry weapons used in the conflict. Of course, the British made up any technological limitations with far better experience, training and morale.

Thanks again for the confirmation gentlemen.

Are you referring to the SKS in the pile?

They would have been Soviet made surely?

    Cheers

I believe the Chinese SKS is distinguishable by its folding spike bayonet.

The Soviet SKS also had one, more of a knife blade- seen in the right image.

    Cheers mate.

Cheers for the correction Chris, learning daily.

This looks like a Rashid carbine due to the stock lines and forecap, not an SKS.
