Hello fellow Battlefield Archaeologists/Diggers.
A producer that calls himself "Duncan Bulling" from ClaerStory are hunting people digging on the Eastern Front. He hunt on this forum via PM's under the name "Interested Bystander". Below you can read his approach to me. Basically i think he is out on hunting some "sensational" material. I am of course "skeptic" when it comes to this kind of people, so i gave him a short answer via email. (I gave him the benefit of the doubt) Also posted below. He then gets my Skype contact and i have not heard from him since.
This of course makes me think he is not serious. I am also concerned that he would draw WRF into the scenario. From his PM it seemed to me that he was trying to get me to post a long "gory" answer. He did not get that. The next mail he sent was just a question if i would be on Skype tomorrow...... If he really wanted to get some info from serious people, he would IMHO not have acted like this. Try to Google the material he already made and judge for yourself. Gypsies beating up each other and so forth...
I am sure he have contacted other people here and elsewhere. Do not help this guy!
Have anybody else heard from this guy?
Me and "Dunc's" correspondence.
"Dear Lars,
I was wondering if you could help me. I work for an award-winning British Documentary company called ClearStory who specialise in history and science programmes. Examples of our recent productions can be found on our website ClearStory - Documentary Films
We have been asked by the British broadcaster Channel 4 to look into people who are searching areas of the Eastern Front. I know that this is quite a complex area, with people searching for very different reasons, and I would be very interested in making contact with you to find out your thoughts and points of view.
As a result, we are trying to take a broad approach, so I have also approached the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgraberfursorge to find out about there operations. I was stunned to read that they "locate" 40,000 war casualties a year. However reading you excellent posts on the War Relic Forum it has opened my eyes somewhat to the realities in the field. I then watched your videos on Youtube on became even more intrigued by what you do - just getting to the location looks tough, which would be good for TV!
I was very interested in finding out more about your expeditions, and your undoubted passion for this period of history - was this your reason for moving from Denmark to Russia? I am also intrigued with the Russian priest who you work with on the occasions you do discover a body, how did your relationship with him start? Also in one of your posts you imply that you sometimes deal with the Russian version of the Volksbund.
I am very aware that a recent British newspaper article was widely criticized on the forum, especially as it was quite a sensationalised piece. However I was wondering if you occasionally come across the so called Black Diggers when you are out in the field, or evidence of their "work". What is your opinion of these people?
Not surprisingly as we are dealing with a British broadcaster, they are always wanting to find a British angle on any programme. So I was wondering if you ever guide British clients out into the battlefields?
If this is something that interests you, is there a good way to contact you, say by telephone? Maybe you could drop me an email at Duncan.Bulling@clearstory.co.uk
Many thanks,
Duncan Bulling"
