It seems the helmet... even today's Kevlar types are really protective only in a psychological sense. A High caliber projectile or shrapnel will go through them like a hot knife through butter. Those guys thankfully never knew what hit them...
WWII helmets served a purpose and did provide a measure of protection as intended.
Keep in mind, that the riddled 'relic' helmets are often the discarded ones after a battle.
Modern 'Kevlar' helmets are very much superior to WWII helmets. There are of course limits.
Under certain circumstances both direct fire and grenade fragments will cause severe problems for the wearer of a modern helmet.
Certain small modern high-tech high speed calibers will penetrate a 'Kevlar' helmet like a knife through butter on a hot summer day.
I dont know what a 'high caliber' projectile is, but I have tested modern 'Kevlar' helmets using both rifle fire, MG fire, hand grenades and Claymore mines.
Not a problem , great find
What a super nice find. Buckle looks to be in excellent condition.
Wish I had a ground dug buckle in that condition. Sadly I never found a buckle.
Congrats.
Wow...a ground dug buckle that looks like This? Clean it up a wee bit and it could still be Used! Nice find!
