It looks in great condition. are you going to clean it up? show us the photos if you do. What country do you live in?
Glad you photographed it where found (I assume).
But like the other guys, I'd really be interested in where you found it...training area or operational zone.
Anyway, very nice find. Congrats.

Found in some wood in the uk (cant say were exacly) but the closest milltary site is an raf base 7miles away. Maybe it was lost after the war?
Wow, great find! Please hsoe rust cleaned when you are done. Did you find a scabbard remains near it?
no scabard unfortunatly. can anyone advise me the best way of cleaning it up? there seems to be remains a layer of white enamel or paint on the blade and handle (see middle pic)
Very nice find indeed.

If not in a training area, could have been "captured" then lost by some kid. It happens.
Friend of mine was awarded the Soldier's Medal while a cadet at West Point. When he retired he gave it to his grandson. This is a U.S. medal for bravery-not-in-combat and bore his name and "West Point". Rare but not unique to a cadet.
Some time later he got a call from West Point admin.
"We've got your medal, Sir. Found and returned to us."
So Bill got his medal back and in due course gave it back to the grandson.
Some time later another call from West Point. The idiot child had lost the bloody medal again. Again it had been found by someone who was a lot more intelligent, who had returned it to West Point.
I don't think he gave it to the kid a third time.
So how many un-named treasures get lost by kids? Especially knives.
