The magazine looks like it might be from a Madsen machine gun, but it's hard to tell. The feed lips are identical to those on a Bren magazine, but the magazine itself is too long and too lightly curved to be one of those. Brens wouldn't have been present on the Eastern Front anyway, at least not in any significant quantity.

I'm thinking it might be the magazine from the ZB-26, a machine gun that is mechanically very similar to the Bren gun, and uses very similar magazines. They were employed by the Germans to supplement their stock of machine guns, so that would make sense.

The other relic looks like it might be a lid for a container, not necessarily military. Perhaps something a soldier bought locally and brought along with him.

    Regards, B.B.

I would have suggested either Bren gun or Degtyaryov KB-P-180 LMG magazine.

    Question

I saw finds from the others (YouTube...) and several of them look "very" similar to this 'round' box (some of them with the lid...)...and indentified as a...WW2 pills (or cream) box; unfortunately there is no stamp/inscription; I cleaned it better but...;-(

ZB 26 magazine..? Could be a..."variant", but...less likely because the ZB magazine(s) were not curved... (in fact...rectangular !).
Indeed...first time I "said" BREN, then...Madsen BUT...(thinking about the context/time frame)...less likely (it could be an "explanation": a "soviet" Bren LMG from "Lend-Lease Act"...) .

    WOW ! I didn't know until now about Degtyaryov KB-P-180... ;-/ A "experimental" DT-28 variant ?!?
