Bayonet identification help

Hi all, picked up this bayonet as i thought it looked pretty cool…….but can’t find out what one it is ….I’ve tried researching the net but it doesn’t come up with this one…..havnt got a clue what riffle it fits and can only see one marking on the blade that doesn’t help me…….any info would be appreciated

Hello, I'm not a bayonet guy but it looked French.

French sword bayonet for use with the 8 mm. M1886 Lebel rifle. Modified in 1915, the quillon was removed because of it's problem of getting stuck in barbe-wire & at the same time the release-button was flattened for the same reason.*

When the piece have a 52cm blade lenght so its not modified, its a Berthier M07/15 Bayonet, used with Berthier rifles M07/15 and M16.Handle should be from brass, the blade could be delivered by Peugeot. On lower flat part of crosspiece should be serial number of rifle with joined and used.

The Berthier rifle progressively replaced the Lebel M1915 & was named the M07/15. It was also equipped with the Lebel M1886 bayonet and its successors.*

Lebel 1915 never existed the Lebel M1886/93 was already obsolete rifle in WW1 even it were used because not enough weapons were avialable, the real production were stopped already in around 1900.The bayonet for Mannlicher Berthier rifle M07/15 is basically same design as M1886 but was removed the quillon, so this type of bayonet was produced and serialed only for M07/15 and M16. Look at french book about rifles Jean Huon.

You are correct about the non existence of the Lebel 1915 rifle. It is a mistake in the book, instead it should have been the Lebel 1886/93.

Now from Wikipedia: At the outbreak of World War I, the Model 1907 Berthier rifle was modified for mass manufacturing, resulting in the Mdle 07/15. The sights, barrel band, and stacking hook were simplified to increase the rate of production. While the original 1907 rifle incorporated a cruciform bayonet, the 07/15 was modified to take the same bayonet as the Lebel, simplifying supply. The turned-down bolt handle was changed to a simpler straight bolt.

By the way the bayonet was nicknamed "Rosalie" by the French Poilus.

Rosalie was because of cut section of blade it looks like rose, its done similar wounds.

That type of bayonet (cruciform) with an original blade length of 52cm or 20.5 inches was designed to penetrate thick clothing, leather straps & equipment & to cause a nasty wound. Of course it was designed when the French doctrine was still the infantry "Elan" (rush), the bayonet being the Queen of the battlefield or believed so to be.
