Had a great day at the local gunshow this morning
where I bought this nice French bayonet for a
    reasonable amount. Loaded with markings,
    but unfortunately no scabbard.

I've always thought these a beautifully
    designed bayonet.........

I also love the look of them and they are still fairly cheap to obtain. I can't imagine it would have been comfortable holding the rifle with it attached

Who doesn't love a yatagahn bladed bayonet? I love em, can't walk by one without picking it up and usually take it home.
    Nice 1866,

I have a Chassepot rifle (not in very good condition) and with the bayonet attached, it really is something to behold. Wouldn't fancy fighting in a built up area with one though. I guess if all else failed you could have thrown it like a spear.

House clearing drills would be fun...not. I'd love to see a photo of the bayonet fixed to the rifle if you have one handy

they were designed so they would be long enough to take a man down on horseback back during the days of horse cavalry

I have several Yataghan style bayonets in my collection, the TURK M1874 sword bayonet is my favorite , the blade is extra thick and heavy
