Does a M5/M5A1 bayonet fit a 308 M1 Garand? If anyone could help or say what fits it, it would be great thank you!

Warhorse,
Whilst I have all of these bayonets, I don't have a M1 Garand to test them however an M5, M5A1, M1 and M1905 should fit.
Alex
They fit. If it's one of the USN 308 rifles then I would go for one of the M5A1's preferably from one of the later production examples, although it probably doesn't really matter. Best Regards, Fred
Ok, thank you guys very much!
Hello Warhorse. I own a M1 Garand in the past and I can assure you that M5 bayonet fit properly on it. I own one M5 bayonet made by Imperial USA
The M5 bayonet was built for the M1 Garand and was to replace the models M1905, M1905E and M1.
There could be a problem here. Older Garands if untouched should still have the old style gas plugs. The M5 and M5A1 bayonets have no muzzle ring, and instead use a steel stud to fit into a receptacle in the gas cylinder plug that has a gas relief valve. This is to accommodate a grenade launcher the stud pressing on the valve venting cartridge combustion gases to the atmosphere. The .308 rifles if government issued will of course have the new style gas plugs. Best Regards, Fred
