Darn it... looks like getting a bayonet will end up being more expensive than the rifle itself!

There are 3 types of those, you are probably talking about the folding one it can hit up to $200-250. But I'm sure usual fixed blade ones are cheap.

Re: Help with an Italian Carcano (?) Bayonet
Any idea how much the bayonet I currently have is worth?
How can I help you get your hands on some bayonets...?

Re: Help with an Italian Carcano (?) Bayonet
Joe, your bayonet was cut-down and made into a fighting knife.
$15 was a really great buy. If the vendor had known this,
he probably would have stuck to $50.........!

I may try to sell this off in order to afford a bayonet that will fit my new rifle. Thanks for the responses, everyone!

Re: Help with an Italian Carcano (?) Bayonet
Usually when a bayo is altered to a trench knife, the muzzle ring and cross guard are removed or reduced to make it handier and less prone to catch on equipment-the older pattern brass/leather scabbards were also easily shortened to a new length-the lack of a scabbard would affect the value substantially.
PS the bayo for your rifle is not the 'butter knife' folding/non folding type-the M38 short rifle and its bayo wasn't introduced until 1938 as the designation implies.
