Hunting Knife Sweden "military issued" ??? ...
Hi,
I would like to show you a hunting knife made in Sweden.
J. A. Hellberg is one famous cutlery manufacturer from Eskilstuna, Sweden.
Founded in 1891 by Johan Alfred Helberg the company used to produce only razors first, but later started making other cutting tools such as daggers and hunting knives to its product range. The company stayed alive until 2007.
This knife model is said to have been originally manufactured in the 1930s and 1940s.
As far as I know, this hunting knife was manufactured in blade lengths of approximately 160 mm, 140 mm and 120 mm.
The handle material was, optionally, jacaranda / rosewood hardwood / precious wood staghorn, also made of pressed leather discs.
The crossguard is made of brass.
The pommel is made of aluminum, the tang of the knife is secured in the handle with a brass screw.
The snap is stamped with WASA
From what I've heard, these types of knives are both relatively popular and relatively expensive in the United States.
I have a copy here that shows relatively strong signs of wear.
The seller had various knives with strong signs of wear from the Scandinavian area in his offer, I finally chose this knife from Sweden.
According to my information, stainless steel from Sandvik was probably used.
I would be interested to know if one of you specialists in the field of hunting knives and military utility knives can assign this knife to a specific year of manufacture based on my images, or can narrow down the year of manufacture of my knife.
I know that in Sweden the military used/are using various "civilian" knives, "privately purchased".
Perhaps this hunting knife was also used by the Swedish military?
Thanks in advance,
Ro
