From 1952 to 1974 officers, senior NCOs and specialists in the Norwegian Armed Forces were awarded the U.S. Carbine M1 equipped (M1 = SLK = Selvladekarabin).
There was also the Bayonet US M4.
Initially, these were US weapons.
From 1954 production of the M4 SLK began at the well-known Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk (Kongsberg Weapons Factory).
These M4 are exact copies of the WW2 US model with excellent quality.
The distinguishing feature is the company logo fracture K under the crown. This can be found on the guard, the grip head and the scrabbard locket. The parrying piece is also noted with "USM4".
The metal parts are phosphated, the handle is made of leather with 6 grooves and plastic spacers at the top and bottom of the metal.
Even the Peen is an exact copy. The but plate was provided with a black protective coating to prevent rust.
The catchs have solid pins.
The scabbard is very similar to the US model, but seems to have been made of better plastic. The scabbard is US M8A1 marked with the Kongsberg logo.
The push buttons have no manufacturer markings.
In later years, the scabbards were reinforced with a metal tip at the tip of the scabbard due to the risk of breakage.
