Default Swiss 1918 lacking serial number

    Good evening, gentlemen.

Looking for information about 1918 bayonets that are lacking a serial number. Is this common? I have been unable to find any information discussing a lack of a serial number.

    Thanks for the help

Yes similar pieces existed it was not joined with rifle, so not serialed to it. Some bayonets could be woried only as sidearm, or its a reserve item stored in depot. Any pictures?

Well, based on my searches since the first post it is obvious Swiss bayonets without serial numbers are certainly not rare. Not as common but I've found probably half a dozen examples. I did find one example with the serial number 'upside down' from all the others I've seen. Opinions on this? A stamping added after the bayonet was surplused?

By similar short rifle serial, is possible this was serialed later as the rifle would be for K1911 carbine made in 1917. So added much later as its a M1918 modell.

And not unusual for the number to be stamped 'upside down' at the depot?

    Thanks again

I dont known, but people as waffenmeister could made errors too, nothing strange there. Normally it was serialed and readable from handle.
