Hello… I saw this Kukri being listed for sale with an inscription on the spine. I always find these pieces quite interesting. Not so long ago, I found a Kukri stamped with M43…no doubt it’s a WW2 era blade. This one I’m posting now doesn’t appear to be in the greatest of shape… however, it does have the appearance of being vintage. No other markings or stamps on the blade.

I’m curious as to what the inscription means… I’ve read that sometimes these pieces can be dated via the inscription. Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

It should You probably have some nepalese people for reading. How looks the handle end?

The handle has a small chunk or two missing, pictures always make it look worse than it actually does. Anyways, there’s no metal plate on the bottom, this also would suggest vintage to me.

I didn’t know where else to post this question, hopefully somebody here can read the inscription and comment on its originality.

This form of handle should be typical for light version of khukri, more a touristic piece as a real combat weapon. Maybe the inscription is a native maker there.

I can’t read it, but I think the script is called devanagari.

    Devanagari - Wikipedia.

I think the inscription includes some numbers, such as a 3 and a 5 at the far right end. Perhaps you’re lucky and live in an area with Indian, Nepalese or Bengali restaurants? Maybe someone there can read it. Try email some.

Come to think of it; your local embassy of Nepal might be another source to try.
