I don't think they have to grid off an "India" mark, the ones I've seen don't have that to begin with.
I believe "they" frequently use an easily removed adhesive sticker.

Please can i get this confirmed as a original Gottlieb Hammesfahr trench knife. Was the "GERMANY" mark normal to have on authentic period knives?
