good evening michael and its great to see you over here on the bw forum ,you have amassed a real nice collection there ,can i ask over how many years you collected them, thanks for sharing , james
Great collection there mate!...
Hi James, Thank you for your message and kind comments. I started collecting toy soldiers and Dinkies when I was knee high to a rural postman. After school I used to get coal in for an old lady with a gammy leg and her coal house was an air raid shelter. The shelter was covered by a garrage roof and one day whilst doing the chor I spotted a German helmet on the shelter roof. I asked the lady if I could buy it and she gave it to me, this would be circa 1960. I have been at it ever since with a brief respight whilst stationed in Singapore for a couple of years. PW German stared when I bought a large collection from a local dealer about 12 years ago. I do not go hunting PW German but do like it so when something interesting shows up and I can afford it then off I go at another tangent!!
How about you, what do you collect and for how long??????
Cheers Michael R
Ade, Thank you for correcting my initial thread. May I respectfully request that you rename both threads to include "and other collectables" as I would like to include other bits and bobs that the current titles would preclude? Ergo, equipment, flags and uniforms etc. Plus it would leave both threads open to others who may wish to contribute.
Cheers Michael R
interesting story michael ,the stahlhelm find sounds great, i have always had an interest in militaria ,but have only been collecting about 6 years ,mainly 20th century world headgear but i do also have some modern lids too ,thanks james
Hi James, "20th century head gear". Do you specialise in any particular areas or types of head gear? I too collect headdress but tend to stick with chip bags and visors from GB/East and West German/US/Russian and a few Polish and French. Where abouts in Wales are you? I lived in H'west for about 3 to 4 years back in the 70's.
Cheers Michael R
Micheal, welcome to the BW forum, that's a big display of BRD badges you have there !............................I only collect BW Heer 1955-present, the badge you show above that you need I.D.'ing , although I can not specifically identify, seems to have either a Luftwaffe or Heeresfleiger slant to it ! to be honest its not in any of my reference books, given the amount and diversity of your BRD badges it could well be a "Muster" or trials piece, that never actually got issued.
Prost ! Steve.
Hi Steve, Thank you for your message, welcome and advice. I hope to display a number of PW German badges and other stuff over the coming months. I would welcome your comments and any advice or indeed, constructive critisism which you would care toi make. With a view to spares, I am happy to trade, if you are interested?
Cheers for now Michael R
