Nick, nice badge, crisp, the quality is there ! an early one too ! I see you did a good job fixing the catch, you can not tell it was ever damaged !
Alex, stunning set of mini medals, to a namede U-boot man It is rare you get a name with any of these post war badges.............they are worthy of a separate thread with a brief history ! It would appear that the black wound badge is of the Imperial style !
Meanwhile see here for info on U802 The Type IXC/40 boat U-802 - German U-boats of WWII - uboat.net
Prost ! Steve.
lads , just wondering , are the 57 versions of medals held in the same esteem as the 39/45 ones. i have only period medals and was wondering if it would be worth investing in some of the 57 types? i know they are not of the same monetary value but as a collector would they still be sentimentally valued like the originals.
pardon my ignorance
thanks Fitzer
I think the 57s are well worth collecting myself I have a few now & it's getting bigger by the day!! The only problem being is once you have started you are doomed lol. Cheers Terry.
Fitzer.....There are now many 57er collectors...as in the Third Reich period collections some specialise, many will collect only the earliest, some only with named items....some like me, collect all awards from the entire timeline 1957-present.
Most forums now have dedicated sub forums on the 1957 range of awards....but they still have there detractors some TR collectors would not give a hoot about them ! However some 57er awards are now rarer and more expensive than their ww2 Cousins ! They are actively collected these days are are generally accepted and regarded as important in the TR time line of awards.
But with popularity comes the inevitable price rises and the fakers are now at work !....you may of missed the boat for bargains, but there are still affordable pieces out there, they can only go up in price !
Do your homework, know the difference between early, mid and late production pieces....they are priced accordingly, however dealers seem not to take this into context, and every 57er is usually not described as such !
Read the forum on these awards.....I am sure you will want some, and as Terry states, one will not be enough !
Prost ! Steve.
Thanks Steve. And nice minis Alex, just wondering if the blue ribbons shouldn't actually be black?
@ Terry...Looking forward to seeing yours aswell mate! Can't get enough of them!!!
Regards
Alex, again a super piece ! is that off U802 ?
The ribbons as Nick states should be black...as per regulations, but it depends on who made it, sometimes the maker could of been swayed by the client who may of requested blue over black, or just happened to have lots of blue ribbon to use up ! The Imperial wound badge displayed, was probably a mistake by the maker.....I have seen such mistakes on mini chains before, it does not detract from the overall appearance or really effect value...
Prost ! Steve.
