Bergbau cap
Hello
I ask for a few opinions about this cap.
I bought this hat.
Can somebody tell me something about that?
The eagle was on the cap but it looks like a fake. I bought the hat because of the beautiful shape. I suspect it is from war time or before.
On the inside you can see three holes at the level where an eagle would normally be. The holes would also fit an army of eagles.
What do you think of that?
I thank you in advance

The eagle doesn't look good to me , looks like a bad cast metal

IMO it looks like a good original, others might chime in soon.

Hi Leo
The cap looks good imo, only concern might be the sweatband.. Not to sure if that is postwar or not.. Stonemint or Erwesa will be around to tell you more.
Here is a couple of mine to compare with
One more Bergbau visor
Bergbau schirmmütze

First of all thanks to everyone who replied so quickly.
I've already admired the two caps.
One cap also has an eagle like the army. The holes in my cap would match an eagle like that. Was that also the case then (with eagle)?
I'm curious what our professors say about it.
Thanks

Hi Leo,
as already said, love this shape.
The eagle is junk, as you say. What about the cockade? Doesn't look too convincing either.
There were, indeed, WH-style eagles BEHIND of which (Wim says this is essential) the Bergbau-hammers were mounted. What people were up to we will never know (perhaps some mounted the hammers in front of the eagle).
A few observations: the sweatband is unusual (the blue ribbon in it for adjusting the size a little) for a NS cap. What does the imprint say? A. M. Drees .......?
The material backing the centerband looks interesting - no pasteboard, rather some stiffened fabric.
If the crossed hammers are original to the cap I wonder what the other holes were for.
I rather tend to an early post-war cap, given the elegant shape + the sweatband that someone made up as NS Bergbau. Looking forward to Stonemint's opinion.

Just found out: Ibbenbüren, see here: Ibbenburen – Wikipedia
So Bergbau all right.
And here is Drees: http://www.stadtmuseum-ibbenbueren.d...bueren_700.jpg
Seems to have been a cap-maker, there are other caps (party etc.) out there he made, so he should have had an A 2 RZM licence (doesn't look like a big factory).
Here is another Bergbau Drees - more saucer-shaped, earlier model:

Thank you Erwesa.
The sweatband reminds me of the Kriegsmarine.
The cockade is badly worn and the red felt is very dirty.
This stiffened fabric is only in the front and goes all the way to the crown on top.
Black lacquered cardboard was used as a support. I'm also not quite sure where to categorically place this hat.

Welcome Leo - is the cockade the 2-piece stamped-out model or is the red felt glued into the center or a cast piece of metal? The latter wouldn't be good sign.
You are right with the sweatband - KM caps did have these.
