Hello, everyone!
I recently received this cap and would like to know what exactly I have there and whether there is anything special about this object.
I would like some professional opinions please.
thanks

Hi Leo,
as presumed, this is a post war police cap: two hints: the (decayed) foam rubber which once acted as Stirndruckreduzierung (originals never had this foam rubber but the red or (rarely) white rubber stripes or the cork stripe (made of entire cork, not the recycled cork made of tiny bits of cork we use) and the air vents.
Another hint is the green lining and the way its sewn into the cap; and - please check - I bet the cap doesn't have the cotton-wool stuffing but a (decaying?) foam rubber glued to the side panels. (Schaumgummikaschierung).
Thank you Erwesa.
I got the cap to check and the old lady said it would have been a high medalist. I now have a week to check and make a decision. I'm not so sure either, the fabric is already very fine, the emblems also look good and there are no holes from other emblems. The stiffening ring is made of cardboard. This rotten forehead protection is barely there and I can't define it exactly, nor does it look like the typical foam in post-war caps. What else can you pay attention to? What I also noticed is how the sweat leather is sewn in with a velvet-like fabric. Somehow I like this hat a lot, it has a special character.
Hi Leo,
have a look here (post # 47): Questionable Weimar Visors
OK thanks.
I'll bring this cap back to the lady.
Once again hi Leo,
the oakleaf wreath looks indeed good, I don't know if the eagle and the Edelweiß are any good as I am no specialist for insignia. If the price for the cap + the insignia equals the price for the insignia + a post-war cap I'd go for it (i. e. < 75,-)
That would be a nice price :-)
I think the edelweiss would come off and the cockade too, but the eagle will not survive because it is a bit is oxidized
