I think the cap is a reproduction.... The eagle has a funny looking eye!

I know little of these caps, but it looks a lot like my M43 SS repro I wear mowing the lawn....., I got mine from At the front, the button on mine is the only original part of it....but the stitching around your skull is a lot more messy than mine

And my eagle is on the side of the cap, rather than on the front, which I think you will find is more common on real period examples
